  • SIGNING UP: Mike Huckabee files for Arkansas primary ballot with his wife, Janet.

Filing for the party primaries and judicial elections
began at noon today at the Capitol and will continue through Nov. 9.

Mike Huckabee, trailing in the Republican presidential race, led the  rush to the Capitol. He'll speak tonight at a Republican fund-raiser for an expanded headquarters.

Huckabee's Twitter announcement said he was honored to be on the ballot in "my home state. Huckabee, the former governor, lives in Florida. He bought land for his $3 million beach home there in 2009.

I'll update the filing later in the day.

The primary was moved from May to March 1 to help Huckabee by adding another Southern state to an envisioned "SEC primary." To date, his poll numbers haven't suggested a breakout for Huckabee, who faces competition in his evangelical base from a number of other candidates.

Another notable filing was that of Conner Eldridge of Fayetteville, a Democrat who'll challenged incumbent Republican Sen. John Boozman. A national level race means get ready for some TV advertising next fall. Boozman, though low-profile even in his home state, is the favorite if for no other reason than Republican dominance in Arkansas in the age of Obama.

The filings are updated throughout the day. Check them here.

By the way, Eldridge's news release said in part:

“People are frustrated because career politicians are wreaking havoc on our economy. Our leaders in Washington are more interested in pushing partisan agendas than finding commonsense solutions,” said Eldridge. “My opponent has had 15 years under Republican and Democratic presidents to get things done – and he hasn’t delivered. It’s time for a strong, new voice in the U.S. Senate. And, I want to be that voice.
