A rough election includes a school decision nearby

Not much good news for liberal sorts in Tuesday elections, except maybe the local school board election recall in Colorado of members intent on dumbing down history.

Among the ominous results was a vote in neighboring Mississippi in which voters declined to allow a judicial review of legislative decisions on school spending. In Arkansas, currently, there is court review. And it produced the Lakeview decision, which has lifted support for education and equalized many, if not all, lagging school districts. In Mississippi, they have a formula for equitable spending, but the legislature routinely falls short of meeting it.

Arkansas legislators have grumbled about court review. And, with a legislature-friendly Supreme Court, they may not have to worry about it much longer. But the example nearby doesn't bode well.
