From Talking Points Memo:

Multiple civilians and police officers were reportedly injured after Colorado Springs, Colorado officers responded to reports of an active shooter at a local Planned Parenthood location.

A local reporter has been tweeting from the scene. The shooter at this point, 2:55 p.m., has not been contained.

Colorado Springs police Twitter account also indicates situation with shooter uncertain.

CBS has a live feed from the scene that indicates police are still encountering gunfire. There's some confusion about whether the casualties occurred in, or near, the Planned Parenthood building. The 911 call came from the clinic. Police reports shots still being fired from undisclosed location. Planned Parenthood says it cannot confirm yet whether it was a target.

UPDATE: at 4:45 p.m, the situation was not resolved. But police have been quoted on camera as saying shots have been exchanged inside the Planned Parenthood building by officers and a suspect. At least four wounded people have been hospitalized, but some TV reports have put the casualty number at eight, nine.

At 5:06 p.m., police said the scene was "not stabilized." Even if the shooter is arrested or killed, he brought unspecified items in bags into the building that will require checks, a police spokesman said. This is a reference to a potential that the gunman took explosives inside. The gunman has exchanged shots with officers in the Planned Parenthood building. People have been removed from the building. It's unknown if others remain inside or if there are hostages. The suspect has not talked to police, only fired at them. A local TV station quoted witnesses as describing the suspect is a white man with a beard, wearing a long jacket and a hunting cap.

6 PM UPDATE: CBS reports the gunman has surrendered. Good. Perhaps this can be unraveled to some degree. The death toll is at three — one police officer and two civilians.

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
