Two separate accidents this morning have sent school children to hospitals.

A middle school student was hit by a vehicle about 7 a.m.  morning while crossing the street to a bus stop near McDermott Elementary on Reservoir Road and taken to a hospital. A school spokesman said the child was expected to be OK, but exact extent of injuries wasn’t known. The driver of the car said the child ran in front of him and he was unable to avoid a collision. The child suffered a collapsed lung, but injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening a police report said.

At 7:30 a.m., a child was struck in a crosswalk at Pine Forest Elementary in Maumelle and airlifted to a hospital. Maumelle Police cited Chasity Phillips 35, for driving with a suspended license from a prior DWI, KARK reported. . A relative told KTHV the boy was going to be OK, but injuries were serious, police said. Police also told the Democrat-Gazette later in the day that tests showed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
