Senator No proves elusive target on budget

Posted By on Fri, Dec 18, 2015 at 10:52 AM

Sen. John "No" Boozman has said he intends to vote against the omnibus spending bill now before the Senate and it's making him something of a tough target for political opponents.

First, there's Curtis Coleman, a Republican primary opponent. No, of course Coleman woujldn't support it either. So:

Coleman noted that Boozman had voted for the 2015 “CRomnibus” bill, a massive federal spending totaling almost $1.01 trillion but $100 billion short of the 2,200 page bill before Congress now.

Coleman said the two bills are strikingly similar. “If Senator Boozman votes ‘no’ this year, he needs to explain what is different from last year other than the fact that he knows I am running and the voters are watching.”

Nailed it.

Then there's Conner Eldridge, a Democratic candidate for the Senate seat. No, he wouldn't have supported the bill either. His Tweets:

(1/2) While I support some of #omnibus, the $1 trillion bill was negotiated behind closed doors & at last minute - and isn't paid for

2/2) Rather than just showing up to vote no, I'll bring transparency & common sense to budgeting process & will fight for Arkansas. #ARpx

Senate approved the bill 65-33.. Sen. Tom Cotton also voted no.
