The State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a criminal suspect Wednesday night south of Perryville. The agency said in a release:

A Memphis man wanted in connection with a Pulaski County theft investigation was fatally wounded by a Johnson County sheriff’s deputy. The identity of the man shot by the deputy is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Johnson County deputy was assisting Perry County deputies involved in the search for the suspect. At approximately 11:45 PM outside a location near 1542 Highway 9, the armed suspect was shot after confronting officers.

Special agents of the state police criminal investigation division were asked by authorities to investigate the circumstances of the shooting. The findings will be submitted in an investigative report to the Perry County prosecuting attorney to consider whether the use of deadly force by the deputy was consistent with Arkansas law.
