New polling says 65 percent of U.S. voters want hearings held on President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court and 58 percent want the seat filled this year.

Also: 50 percent of those polled said they’d be less likely to vote for a U.S. Senate candidate who opposed a nomination hearing.

Opponents to hearings include both Republican senators from Arkansas — John Boozman, on the ballot this year against Democrat Conner Eldridge, and the Senate’s biggest roadblock to everything, Tom Cotton.

Voters also prefer, by a wide margin, that Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton fill a Supreme Court seat rather than Donald Trump. Boozman, you’ll remember, has expressed support for Trump as the nominee and has been dodging both specific questions about Trump’s anti-woman rhetoric and Eldridge efforts to get him to join in a debate.

These are, of course, national poll numbers. It’s possible the Just Say No to Obama and Just Say Yes to Trump stance of Boozman is more popular in Arkansas.
