Driver in road rage incident gets 30 months on weapons charge

U.S. Attorney Chris Thyer's office announced today that Justin Stegall, 30, of Benton was sentenced Thursday to 30 months in federal prison for possession of an unregistered short-barrel rife.

A jury convicted Stegall Feb. 17. According to an account from the U.S. attorney's office, Stegall was found in September 2013 with a loaded, unregistered short-barrled rifle in his vehicle in a Benton shopping center.  Benton police had responded to a call about a man who had flashed a gun  in a road rage incident.

The man who reported the incident testified in federal court that Stegall had threatened him. He was found in a restaurant in the shopping center. Witnesses had seen his car as it "zoomed" through the shopping center parking lot, crowded with children, the U.S. attorney said.

After prison, Stegall also will have to serve three years of supervised release.
