Following Hillary Clinton's historic selection as the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party last night in Philadelphia, Jezebel.com makes note of just how far we've come: a 1995 story in which discount behemoth Walmart pulled t-shirts from their stores because they featured the words "Someday, a woman will will be PRESIDENT!" A spokesperson for the company told the Associated Press at the time that the shirt "goes against Walmart's family values," and had been deemed "offensive."

The t-shirts, bearing the image of the character Margaret from the "Dennis the Menace" cartoon strip jubilantly shouting the phrase, had been carried in one store in south Florida, but were pulled following an anonymous complaint. The story went viral before viral was a thing, eventually being picked up by People Magazine and other outlets. According to the story, Walmart eventually reversed course after receiving complaints and ordered 30,000 of the shirts for sale in their stores.
