Early voting has begun for the special election Tuesday to extend 12.4 mills in Little Rock School District property taxes for 14 years to float a bond issue for construction.

The election is attended by organizations on both sides, as demonstrators outside the county election commission voting site at Broadway and Markham illustrate.

Voting continues there from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every week day. Four other early voting sites open at 10 a.m.

Supporters of the school tax also assembled across the street at City Hall for a news conference in favor of the millage, which will add $300 million in debt service and some $600 to $900 million in additional tax payments to district taxpayers. Protesters gave them some backdrop for the event, whose attendees included Mayor Mark Stodola, state Rep. Clarke Tucker and City Director Kathy Webb.
