DF&A spokesman Jake Bleed heading to governor's office

Jake Bleed, who's been communications administrator at the state Department of Finance Administration, tells me he's moving to Gov. Asa Hutchinson's staff July 5 as senior special projects coordinator. No word yet on who'll replace Bleed at DF&A.

During Bleed's tenure, there's been a change in past practice on communications at the agency. Inquiries to its varied divisions — which include the lottery, Alcoholic Beverage Control and state Building Services, along with a variety of tax and budget operations — are now typically routed through Bleed, where once individual agency administrators were generally available for specific questions.

J.R. Davis, the governor's spokesman, said Bleed would take over some of the duties previously handled by Rett Hatcher, the governor's director of legislative affairs, who left this week for the deputy director's job at Arkansas Teacher Retirement. Bleed will be paid $89,000, he said.
