Health Department has huge backlog of requests for birth certificates, other records

Posted By on Wed, Aug 23, 2017 at 8:44 AM

John Lyon, writing for the Arkansas Nonprofit News Network, reports that the Arkansas Health Department has a backlog of 11,000 requests for vital documents.

Bottom line, somebody needing a birth certificate may have to wait a long time for requests made on-line or by mail. The department tries to provide same-day service for people who appear at the office in Little Rock (difficult for many people.)

Why the problem? Not clear. Other states don't seem to be having it. State officials vow they are working on a solution.
