As of today, the Medical Marijuana Commission has received a total of 20 applications for licenses from entities interested in the cannabis business: 13 for dispensaries and seven for cultivation. The deadline for applications is 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18.

Because the applications are largely exempt from the state Freedom of Information Act, it's not known if Nathan Mann of Little Rock was among those applying for a dispensary license. Mann lost a bid before the Planning Commission last week to rezone 7.2 acres of undeveloped land behind 19400 Lawson Road in West Pulaski County from R-2, single family, to PCD, Planned Commercial Development, so the property could house a medical marijuana dispensary. It's possible that Mann would have leased the property to a dispensary owner, rather than own the dispensary himself.

Mann proposed to build a road to the property, which he told the commission had been owned by his family for several generations, from Vickie Lane, which comes off Beauchamp Road. The commission staff had recommended against the rezoning because of its location within a residential area, which it said would be inappropriate for a commercial enterprise. Commercial uses in the area where Mann would have located his dispensary "are limited to Lawson Road" at present, the staff report said.
