Walmart closing Riverdale market

Walmart is closing its neighborhood market on Cantrell Road in Riverdale. Not surprising. It has few customers on the occasions I go in. Makes it convenient. Fresh offerings are decidedly subpar, however. Notice says closing is Nov. 2.

Somebody call Jeff Bezos. Maybe Whole Foods could make that jinxed location work.

Much discussion on our Facebook post about this on alternatives for the site. Forget Trader Joe's. Until it has a closer warehouse/distribution center, Little Rock isn't likely a target for expansion. Tough location, too. Low-density population to the east; river cuts off northern potential (though apartment developments in Riverdale have helped.) Whole Foods is testing a smaller format, highly digital store — Whole Foods 365 — in some cities, but someplace up and beyond Cantrell Hill is a more likely location for that, should it ever come to pass.

PS: Maybe if Trader Joe's rethinks Memphis, there's a chance for LR.

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
