The UA system announced today that it has named two finalists for UAMS Chancellor to replace the retired Dan Rahn, including the current interim chancellor:
The two finalists, who both will have formal visits to the UAMS campus next week, include:
Stephanie Gardner, Pharm.D., Ed.D., interim chancellor, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
Cam Patterson, M.D., M.B.A., senior vice president and chief operating officer at Weill-Cornell Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital
UA System President Donald Bobbitt had previously named two finalists — Dr. A. Wesley Burks, dean of the school of medicine at the University of North Carolina, and Dr. Danny Jacobs, executive vice president of the University of Texas School of Medicine’s Galveston branch — but both of them withdrew, Bobbitt announced in August, forcing the search to start anew.
A potential complicating factor in attracting top candidates: UAMS is facing a dire budget crunch that could lead to job cuts.
From the press release, here’s more on the two new finalists:
Gardner was named interim chancellor at UAMS in July, having served as senior vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost since July 1, 2016. She previously served as associate provost for society and health at UAMS for two years after an 11-year tenure as dean of the UAMS College of Pharmacy.
Patterson has served as senior vice president and chief operating officer at Weill-Cornell Medical Center since 2014. A cardiologist, Patterson previously held numerous academic and clinical appointments at the University of North Carolina, including as physician-in-chief at the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care and executive director of the UNC McAllister Heart Institute.
