Speaking of fielding candidates in a hostile environment, this caught my eye from Texas Tribune reporter Patrick Svitek: In 2018, the Democratic Party in Texas will contest all 36 U.S. U.S. House seats, 133 out of 150 state House seats and 14 out of 15 state Senate seats. Impressive. They’ll lose more than they win, but this is how you make a party viable.

Given changing demographics, Arkansas is probably an even steeper climb for Democrats than Texas, which would have been hard to believe ten years ago. I gather that the Democratic Party of Arkansas is attempting their own push for 2018. I’ve asked Chairman Michael John Gray for an update on candidates they’re fielding and will pass along when I hear back.
