  • HOG HEAVEN: Ousted coach Bret Bielema says goodbye to Fayetteville estate.

Bret Bielema, canned as coach of the Hogs last year after an ignominious five-year run, has put his palatial Fayetteville estate on sale for $1.975 million.

Bielema and his family bought the property in 2013 for $1.5 million.

From the listing on realtor.com (which includes more photos for the curious):

Magnificent two level European style Estate on 2 acres in Bridgewater. Beautiful details and spacious living in one of Fayetteville’s finest homes. This outstanding 6309 square foot Manor features a circular drive with 5 garages, 2 fireplaces, 4 bedrooms, 5.5 baths, gourmet kitchen, wet bar, exercise room, heated saltwater pool, family inspired outdoor kitchen, landscaping and many more amenities!
The Razorback Foundation announced in January that Bielema could be paid nearly $12 million as part of a severance package, paid out in monthly installments of up to $320,833.33 (before reductions or withholdings) through 2020. That package would be offset if Bielema gets income from a new job; currently unemployed, he's done some TV appearances and some gigs as a representative of the NFL's New England Patriots at scouting events. Even if he lands a big job, the Foundation will still be liable for a minimum payment of $150,000 each year.

No word on where he's moving, but there's a little internet speculation that he might land a permanent role of some kind with the Patriots organization. Such a move would represent a change of pace for the Pats, known for hiring highly competent staff.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
