It’s a day of celebration of one of my long-held dreams: that the stretch of Markham between Pine and Kavanaugh in Little Rock be turned into three lanes with a turning lane in the middle and wider sidewalks. I live in Stifft Station, not too far from Markham, and have little kids who like to play with balls and have friends and a school across the hilly stretch of Markham, which seems to inspire drivers to step on it.

Through July 7, the street has been temporarily restriped and a new commercial district has been imagined near the Oyster Bar. In my admittedly biased estimation, the three-lane plan works just fine. Traffic hasn’t backed up. People seem to be driving slightly less crazy.
