Dueling news conferences in governor's race

Posted By on Wed, Sep 12, 2018 at 8:03 AM

Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Democratic opponent Jared Henderson have scheduled news conferences today to talk about the governor's work requirement for Medicaid participation and the computer-only reporting requirement.  Expect different takes on the program.

Henderson will be joined by medical professionals at 1:30 p.m. in front of the Capitol.

Mr. Henderson and guests will be speaking on the negative impacts and damages from Governor Hutchinson’s implementation of the Medicaid internet reporting requirement, which is proving to scale back the number of individuals enrolled in Medicaid due largely to the inaccessible nature of the reporting methods. As this program reached its third monthly deadline, more than 4,500 Arkansans are expected to be kicked off Medicaid for the remainder of the year.
Hutchinson will be joined by Human Services and Workforce department heads in the governor's conference room at 2:30 p.m.

Governor Asa Hutchinson will hold a news conference on Wednesday to talk about the first three months of the work requirement and provide the latest numbers.
I expect the governor to be upbeat about his work requirement, which is being challenged in federal court as an illegal obstacle to health care for poor people. Medicaid is a health program.
