BIG DIPS: Require fabulous chips.

Couple of different things to note about the upcoming World Cheese Dip Competition at War Memorial Stadium. I noticed on the WCDC Facebook page that amateurs have a chance to win free admission to the contest just for posting a comment — that’s kinda cool and a bargain, too.

Festival organizer John McClure and I were talking about the chips they’re going to offer at the competition. Never fear; these folks are preparing for an onslaught of hungry cheese dip lovers and are preparing themselves by having more chips on hand than could conceivably be consumed. This year Duncanville, TX chipmaker La Mexicana Tortilla Factory is providing all the chips — fresh and crispy and ready to go.

Of course, that got my mind on to tortilla chips and potato chips and all that jazz. I like chips in many forms; the chips at The Cow Pen (shown above) down in Lake Village come to mind as some of my favorites — light, fresh, bountiful portions. Casa Manana also makes a good thck chip. On the potato side of things, I’d be hard pressed to get past anything better than EJ’s Eats and Drinks.
