Actually, we don’t know how Boulevard Bread Co. could be better. But bigger it will be, thanks to the Heights’ outpost’s upcoming expansion into the adjacent storefront formerly occupied by New Traditions dress shop on Kavanaugh. The new space will include a restaurant (name to be determined) that owner Christina Basham said will offer a “very simple, small dinner menu” designed by Sonia Schaefer — expect such items as steak frites — and a bar. The bar will serve classic and specialty cocktails, including drinks made with fresh-squeezed juices, and appetizers. Boulevard’s current deli and grocery space (entrance at 1920 N. Grant) won’t change.

Hours will be extended from the current 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. or 10 p.m., Basham said, and breakfast will be served on both Saturdays and Sundays. The business’ new 4,900-square-foot footprint may also be large enough to include a small catering room for private parties. The new space will be recognizably Boulevardian, Basham promised.

Basham’s shooting for an August opening. She said she’ll try hard to keep the current space open during construction, though the connecting wall will have to be torn down. Meanwhile, the deck renovation is almost complete, and will offer a larger outdoor eating area.

Boulevard Bread also has locations in SoMa (1417 S. Main St.), the River Market and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
