Food trucks, Mardi Gras, and restaurant openings

Posted By on Fri, Feb 13, 2015 at 9:35 AM

It's your Friday Five open line! Last week was all about restaurant memories, and I really enjoyed reading them. This week is all about the now, and the soon-to-be now — because there's no place better to be with spring just around the corner than the Great State of Arkansas. Oh, sure, the weatherman says it could get a little ugly over the weekend, but I'm sure you've all stocked your refrigerators with all sorts of delightful artisanal milk from sustainably raised local cows and filled your pantry with a delicious variety of local breads. Because when foodies do weather panic, we do it in style, right?

Lots of fun stuff going on, so let's get on with it - my top 5 happenings. And as always, feel free to talk about whatever you'd like in the comments - this is your open forum after all.

*West Little Rock Food Truck Festival:  Mobile dining heads west when the food trucks roll into Chenal Pointe at the Divide on Sat., Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. I have word that Pie Hole, Waffle Wagon, Hot Rod Wieners, Katmandu MoMo, Southern Gourmasian and others will be attending.

*Open for business:  The Boulevard Bistro in the Heights I talked about last week is now open. Piro Pizza on South Main is also ready to go. Both places should be pretty fantastic.

*Coming soon: Jeff Trine says that Damgoode in the River Market should be ready to go in two weeks. Heights Tamale and Taco is reporting right at one month until they open. And Bar Louie on McCain in North Little Rock says they'll be ready to go April 1 (let's hope that's not a joke).

*Valentine's Gras: SoMa's annual Mardi Gras parade will be on Saturday, Feb. 14 starting at noon  on 24th St. and Main St. Floats, food, music and beads.

*Get to the Spa: And lastly, I mentioned this awhile back, but there's more to offer at Superior Bathhouse Brewery. Looks like they are running gangbusters with their house brews, and our resident beer expert Scott Parton says the ones he's tried are tasty. Let me know if you've gotten in there!

Now it's your turn:  Did you eat something great this week? Something terrible? Have a hot tip you want to share? Hie thee to the comments!
