The British are coming: "Crossing Borders" at OA

Posted By on Tue, Jul 23, 2013 at 4:55 PM

"Crossing Borders," an exhibition of work by six artists, including British photographer Chris King and organized by British gallery owner and native Arkansan Susan Mumford, opens Wednesday, July 31, at the Oxford American's "South on Main." The show, Mumford writes in a news release, addresses the impact of travel on the artist's work.

King will exhibit photographs made in the South, including Arkansas, that provide "insight into a European's perspective of what stands out as being distinctive." Marcus McAllister, an Arkansan who now lives in Paris, will show paintings. He has shown his work at Gallery 26. Kimo Minton, who splits his time between London and Atlanta, carves and paints panels, often using a jazz theme. Mia Fernandes, the sole woman in the show, lives in the Pyrenees, draws and and does ceramics; she'll exhibit mixed media pieces. Rob Tarbell, of Virginia, works in smoke on paper. Ryder Richards is based in New Mexico; his work in the show focuses on the culture of guns, using gunpowder as a medium.
