AmyB's Gettin' Out: Saturday night

Posted on Sat, Apr 29, 2006 at 4:13 PM

Hope you didn't wash await, or start to melt, after that monsoon today. Here's Amy Brawner with what to do tonight, after the jump:

I don’t know about you all, but I had every intention on visiting the Bargain Barn this morning … I could not get out of bed if there was an original Edith Head-designed gown worn by Rita Hayworth in sale there for a dollar. Imposible.

Well, here I am, dutifully picking out some things to do tonight, perhaps a little night-time action will help rid some of us with the rainy day doldrums….

The fterthought is in day 2 of the opening weekend: today it’s Stephen Winter, followed by Ginny Becton and Pat Henry, then the Boondogs headline tonight, until midnight.

I’m so glad to see that Shannon Boshears is still around … I’m not sure exactly what I meant by that, she’s never really gone anywhere, only that she’s been booking more dates in the last couple of months and I love this woman and her style. She really does not get the recognition she deserves … She’s got that tough-sexy rock girl voice, and great songs. Ladies, have you ever been through a particularly nasty break-up, where someone lied to you, took advantage of you and then married some floozy half his age that he met just a week prior? “I’m Pissed,” from her “Chicksinger” album is, hand to God, the ultimate healing song. Don’t worry guys, there’s no man-hating or burning of bras at her shows, you’ll get as much enjoyment out of it. Rollicking rock, a long list of cool cover songs: Fleetwood Mac, Stray Cats, Ramones, Lou Reed and she does them well. She’s at Cajun’s Wharf tonight starting at 8, and the cover is $5.

The Cornerstone in NLR has hippy-rockers FreeVerse. They always bring in fun for the tie-dyed crowd. I noticed the last time I saw them that were doing more rock and less jam, at their show, who knows what they may do, as impromptu is the name of the game for them. 9 p.m., $5.

Somebody called me last week from the Munks (tonight at Juanita’s) promising a press kit so I could tell everyone what was going on mew with them, but I never received it. You can ask them tonight, along with the Sandbox Lizards and the Jacob Enwood Band. 9:30 p.m. $6.

Late night at Midtown should be packed: it’s Sugar and the Raw with Underuse (how do they pronounce that? Is it like “Under Use” or “ Underoos”? I hope it’s the latter)…It’ll be the place to be late night, we’re betting. Private memberships available at the door.

Sports Page has Ocean with Stone Mountain Crew tonight. Music starts at 10 p.m. Cover $3.

Dancing and party and feel good vibes are a given at the One Stone Show tonight at Sticky Fingerz. 9:30 p.m. $5.

I’ll be Special K, if you’ll be Ozone: Big, big hip-hop show tonight at Vino’s Brewpub, Under The Ground presents had prolific lyric slammer 607 with an entourage including DJs, emcees, dancers and all that, the list: g-force, Phate, CG6, Lucio, Carteaire, Sta-Lo, Osiris the God.  8:30 p.m., $5. All ages.

Hey go to the Cate Brothers show tonight at White Water Tavern and tell them that their sons (the Eoff Brothers) kicked-bootay last night at the Press Box. The Cate Bros come on  this evening at 10 p.m., $5.

Remember: Bobby “Blue” Bland is at Bada Bing tomorrow, on East 145th Street. Call 897-21112 to see if they still have tickets.
Wonder if he’ll snort a lot at this show?
Wonder if he’ll play “Member’s Only”?
So many questions, Bobby
