Gettin' Out: Monday fun

Posted on Mon, May 15, 2006 at 12:00 PM

Amy Brawner says that if you think Little Rock rolls the sidewalksup at 6 on Monday, you're wrong. Check all this out:

Tonight at Vino's Brewpub it's Honky, from Austin, Texas, a heavy-metal and Southern rock trio drenched in tobacco chew and whiskey (Jim Beam, not Jack Daniel’s, thank you very much) Led by former Butthole Surfer J.D. Pinkus, the group’s platform is basically romanticizing bar-brawling good-time rock, and being completely unapologetic about it. The band is completed by Bobby Ed Langraf and Justin Collins, who some of us know as the former drummer for Go Fast and the nerdy incidental percussionist for Sugar and the Raw (back when it was “in” the Raw). He’s sporting a mini-ZZ Top beard like the other two guys, and banging it out furiously, as we remember, and from the photos we’ve seen he looks happier than Beulah the Cow. Go see for yourself how happy he is.

Honky’s last album, “Balls Out Inn,” is a tribute to everything that is important to them: whiskey, wimmen and reefer.

Smoke Up Johnny, which drew a standing-room-only crowd at Pizza D’s last Saturday, and Josh the Devil and the Sinners are the opening acts for the 8 p.m. show. Admission is $7.

My bad: the food and wine event with expert Daniel Schuster is tonight at Nu Cuisine. Tickets are $100 to sample gourmet victuals and taste superb wine from the restaurant's list. With that price, we're sure you won't leave hungry. Call for reservations, seating is limited. 378-7500.

They call it Stormy Monday: Open Mic Blues Jam tonight (and every Monday night) at Juanita's. $5, 8:30 p.m. Bring your gear, your pipes, your well-thumbed sheet music of "Mustang Sally" (or maybe not). It's ages 18 and up.

Lambda rules tonight at Easy Street Piano Bar for "Madame Night." Open Mic, no cover.
