To do Wednesday: Gridiron, Movies in the Park

Posted on Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 10:40 AM

Gridiron, the biennial musical spoof of Arkansas politicians and personalities staged by the Pulaski County Bar Association and friends, opens its run with a benefit performance at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre tonight. The silent auction and cocktail buffet starts at 6 p.m., with the show at 8 p.m. If any tickets remain, they're $50 (benefiting the Bar Foundation). Call 378-0405. The show continues through Saturday, with an 8 p.m. staging on Thursday and shows at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Runtime is an hour, so you 've got time to hit either of those 7 p.m. shows over the weekend and make dinner. Tickets Thursday through Saturday are $30.

Movies in the Park will show "Fletch," starring Chevy Chase at the Riverfest Amphitheatre, and admission is free. Bring whatever you need to enjoy the movie, as long as it's not in a glass container, while ice cream and drinks will be available for purchase as well if you don't want to lug around your cooler. Gates open at 6 p.m., the show starts at dark, which is now before 8:25 p.m. "Charge it to the Underhills, and put $30 on there for yourself."
