We welcome Catherine Gilbert to the Arkansas Times fold as our new club crawler and girl about town in the late night. Consider this the new After Dark blog entry, and Cat will have her own blog shortly here on www.arktimes.com. For how, we’ll run her blog entries at Little Rocking.
Hey folks, I’m Catherine and I have your club news. It will be daily when my blog gets up and running. Here’s what’s happening Thursday, with some big news for the rest of the weekend.
First off, Ben Zephyr — a band on the rise from Denton, Texas, and hoping to sign a record deal with Sony in a couple of weeks — is at Big Downtown Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the River Market Pavilion. Admission is free; beer and food are available for purchase … Russellville bands Bear Flag Revolt, Justin Sherry and Rokum Sockum will be at Whitewater on Thursday (10 p.m., $3) … If you’re looking for something a bit more off the cuff, check out the 10-piece Louisville-based band the Villebillies, who will headline this Thursday at Sticky Fingerz. With a musical style that combines hip-hop beats over a banjo and Beyonce references, the weirdness of the Villebillies is vaguely reminiscent of the off-kilter humor of Eminem with a distinctly “countrified” feel. If you like hip-hop (and whiskey) the show starts at 9:30 p.m. and is $5.
