The good news for seasonal music fans in Little Rock is that David Glaze and his River City Men’s Chorus expanded their “Holiday” show held every December to THREE performances, all free, and the last one is tonight at 7 at Trinity United Methodist Church.
The show runs from serious works early on, including a fabulous a cappella number that runs at least five layers deep in wonderful harmony, to a jazzed up “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” both in the first set, to a frolicking and fun second set of season favorites (even a rocked-up, swinging “Frosty the Snow Man”) to gospel-sprititual style near the finish. It’s a well-spent 90 or so minutes and a wide variety of music executed marvelously by the 50-man group. Some other highlights from Monday’s show, which we saw, were solos by Scott Stern on vocals and Nick Brown on trumpet, plus a showstopping “O Come All Ye Faithful” at the end, when the group branches into smaller segements, one still on stage and three others back in the aisles, for quadrophonic brilliance.
Get there early. All 800 seats were filled Monday well before start time.
