Still mourning the end of “Sunglasses After Dark,” so I’ve been a-trollin’ the interweb this morning in search for some of that Oleo Magneto weirdness. Not quite there, but, still, some gems:
- An almost life-changingly awesome video from New Albany, Mississippi preacher Estus Pirkle from the 70s or 80s. A vision of a heaven that’s “7 million times bigger than New York City!” and looks a lot like Krypton. With a singing midget bringing it all home. Eat that, David Lynch! Plus, hell is scary and Babylonians are from South Babylon. Courtesy of the routinely awesome “WFMU’s Beware of the Blog”
- Further testament to the awesomeness of “Beware”: songs from a 70s in-house musical made for Ortho salesmen of birth control products. “Though a married female’s problems may be myriaaaad, thanks to us she can usually expect her periooood!
- Traveling organ group, The Willy Wall Trio does space-age hotel jams. From Waxidermy.
- I don’t think you can download full tracks, but you can listen to most everything from two amazing collection of 70s Bollywood film music. “Bombshell Baby from Bombay” is the jam.
- Ok, maybe it’s time to quit: Walter Brennan covering “Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Town” Courtesy of UBU 365-day project, one of my favorite day-wasters.
