What's the music biz if not regenerative? Where else could you start Southern and  white (and redheaded to boot) and emerge Jamaican? Well, not exactly Jamaican, but as you can see above Fayetteville's Joseph Israel (nee Joseph Montgomery Fennel) is all up in some rasta culture. The 28-year-old, whose family owns Jose's in Fayetteville, plays tonight at Revolution ($10, 9 pm). He's touring in support of his major label debut, "Gone Our the Days," which was recorded in Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica. After several family trips to Jamaica, Israel started studying with Rasta elders and, in high school, converted, quit the varsity basketball team and started his first reggae group, Kepha. We gotta get some more back story, here.

Here's an mp3 link to an interesting interview with Israel on PRI. No talk, sadly, about Haile Selassie or weed as a sacrament.
