Best Pizza?

Posted By on Wed, May 30, 2007 at 12:14 PM

An article on what makes a pizza good (or not) was on MSN today.

It got me to thinking about pizza shops in Little Rock.  The central Arkansas area has great selection of locally owned Pizza shops -- U.S. Pizza, Larry's, Iriana's, O.W. Pizza, Damgoode pies, Pizza D'action, and the list goes on.

We don't even have a consensus in our household as to who makes the best pizza in town.

Personally- I prefer Vino's-

I'm a big fan of New York style pizza.  Hand-tossed crust, loads of toppings, and big, foldable slices are where its at for me.

What's your opinion on the subject?

On my way back to my hometown for the holiday, I stopped off in Memphis for lunch.Neely's BBQ, opened by the nephews of the famous Jim Neely, the owner of Interstate BBQ.I gots the pulled pork platter.  With Fries and Beans.  Sorry, I should have gotten the slaw or potato salad, but I was craving some fries.  And boy were they good.  The sauce was good, but the pork itself was the real standout- tender and smoky.  The beans were also the best I've had in a while.  Nice and tangy.Mrs. Belly gots the small BBQ Sammich. And who can resist the BBQ spaghetti?   This is good stuff.  Pasta with BBQ sauce and pork- how could you miss?Stop off at Neely's next time you're in Memphis.  You'll be glad ya did.  Got a good spot in Memphis/West Memphis to tell us about?

One of the very few places in Little Rock that I have found to be reliable restaurant every time out is Cafe' Prego.  The prices are reasonable, the service is attentive, the wine list is good, and the food is excellent.Shrimp Crepes with mixed veggies is an excellent light dinner choice-Myself- I can't seem to steer clear of the eggplant parmesan.   A side of pasta clinches the deal- all for about 10 bucks.  This dish is easy to botch- I've seen it done too many times, but Prego nails it every time. What's your Ol' Faithful?

aficionado (From Webster) Main Entry:afi·cio·na·do Variant(s):also af·fi·cio·na·do \-ˈnä-(ˌ)dō\Function:noun Inflected Form(s):plural afi·cio·na·dosEtymology:Spanish, from past participle of aficionar to inspire affection, from afición affection, from Latin affection-, affectio —Date:1802 : a person who likes, knows about, and appreciates a usually fervently pursued interest or activityThe Belly Boy, dear reader, is an aficionado of Taco Trucks.   But you probably already guessed that.On a cold day, the Tacos El Cha Pulin truck at 65th and University hits the spot (sorry for the fuzzy pic- the weather was not cooperating).Beef tacos at $1.25 each.  Comes with limes, two grilled peppers, a grilled onion, and two hot sauces. The $4 burrito comes with rice and beans.Taking a peek inside...This could very well be the best burrito I have found in town.  Or maybe it was the dreary weather that made the warm and soft tortilla seem that much better.  Its stuffed with onions, peppers, beef, rice, beans, tomatoes, and some herbs.  The hot sauce is just that- HOT (but tasty).   Put this taco stand on your "to do" list.  They're open from 10-9 every day.
