Localist has a REALLY detailed lowdown on Chris Denny hanging out with Rick Rubin at the legendary producer and label head's house. The short of it: They got along winningly, but don't expect Denny to sign with Columbia or Atlantic or any other major anytime soon. He's waiting until the right deal comes along.

Also on Localist: more on Rock Candy faves Smoke Up Johnny.

Max Recordings is offering mp3s of songs from the Good Fear, Grand Serenade and Big Silver, all of which have new albums coming out in the near future.

I'm probably behind the times, but just in case, my buddy Dacus points me to Biggie vs. Hitler (NSFW without headphones).

  • Cats and dogs

I've always been leery of people who dislike animals. To my wife and me, a house without dog hair in the corners and a cat perched on the windowsill is as barren as a highway rest stop. We're down to three dogs and two cats, the smallest menagerie we've had for years.
