"12 Miles" on shaky ground

Earlier this week, Variety reported that the future of "12 Miles of Bad Road," the latest project from Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Harry Thomason ("Designing Women" "Evening Shade") is uncertain. The hour long comedy, set to appear on HBO, got six of 10 episodes shot before the strike shut production down. Now HBO is "discussing" (ominous noises) with the Arkansas natives on how to proceed.

Lily Tomlin stars as a Dallas real-estate magnate and the matriarch to a large, troubled family. Gary Cole and Mary Kay Place also have roles.

Not that this was necessarily going to be its salvation, but HBO better come up with something soon. "In Treatment" looks a little too interminable for me. "Entourage" doesn't pick back up until the fall. "The Wire" (sniff, sniff) is ending, and there's no word on when the Charlaine Harris/Alan Ball Vampire show is set to air. As much as I like watching "She's the Man" over and over, it might be time to save $9 a month or whatever HBO costs for a while.
