LRFF: Lots of folks at "War Eagle, Arkansas"

Posted By on Fri, May 16, 2008 at 11:40 AM

It seems the Little Rock Film Festival is very, very popular. Too popular, to hear about 150 people tell it — ticket holders who were turned away when the Riverdale 10 Cinema ran out of seats for the premiere of “War Eagle, Arkansas.” That was after they opened up a second and then a third screen to try to accommodate everyone.  Those unlucky 150 were, to put it gently, fairly pissed off, and they should have been, because they missed one heck of a good movie.

The theater was so packed they had me lifting “caution” tape and moving to a seat within potential lawsuit distance of the scaffolding they’d erected to support the DVD projector. I didn’t mind – the buzz of the crowd was invigorating (for everyone but the theater’s staff, I’m sure), the popcorn was fresh, the movie was very good and my wife was watching the baby at home. And given the turnout and the excitement, one thing was clear from start to finish: A film festival is something this town's been crying out for for a very long time.

Those that missed out can catch the film again on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Riverdale 10.
