Linkage: New music from Bishop Allen, Josh Lucas is Thurman Munson and more

That's Brooklyn sugar-pop act Bishop Allen on Fuel TV doing the unreleased track "Shanghaied." It might be from "Gr...," the band's album due next spring. That's LR native Christian Rudder playing guitar in the yellow hoodie. [via You Ain't No Picasso]

In the New York Times, Ben Brantley manages a tepid endorsement of the Broadway adaptation of "Shrek," directed by Fayetteville native Jason Moore ("Avenue Q").

“Shrek,” for the record, is not bad. The maiden Broadway venture of DreamWorks Theatricals (a stage-oriented arm of the company that made the movie), in association with Neal Street Productions, it is definitely a cut above the most recent offerings from its creators’ direct competitor in cartoon-inspired musicals, Walt Disney. Unlike that company’s “Tarzan” and “Little Mermaid,” “Shrek” has the virtues of a comprehensible plot and identifiable characters.

According to this report, Little Rock native Josh Lucas is slated to play Thurman Munson in an upcoming biopic called "Keeper of the Pinstripes." It's like every male actor's dream: A chance to grow facial hair and act surly.

In an interview with Stranded in Stereo, Free Blood's John Pugh talks about the music he listened to growing up in Little Rock

We didn’t have a big scene like New York, or D.C. or San Francisco. We listened to Link Wray. We listened to Stevie Wonder. We listened to Black Flag. We listened to Black Sabbath. To us it’s all good. It’s all great music as long as it has passion. At the same time, I realize now that there was a period in the 90s where I kind of fell off the map as far as mainstream music went. I just got an Ipod last year. My wife gave it to me for Christmas. So I’ve been slowly catching up to the rest of the planet as far as digital music goes.
