The North Little Rock late-night club Counterpoint remains open until 5 a.m. despite a North Little Rock ordinance, which went into effect at the end of August and requires all clubs in the North Little Rock city limits, regardless of license, to close at 2 a.m.

So far, according to operator Cheryl Drennan, the club has been fined $2000, or four times at $500 a pop. The fines came on four consecutive days soon after the ordinance went into effect. Drennan and club manager Michael Heitman are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6 to contest the penalties.

Drennan says she’s tried to restructure the business, but can’t make find a viable alternative.

“This has been known as a late night club for over 20 years,” she said. “In order to change the hours, we’d have to move to a new location.”

At least until Jan. 6, the club is open from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. seven days a week. The phone number is 771-5515.
