Surprise Delight.

My mom enjoys days when we can catch lunch together somewhere, especially since we share the love of a good food find.  Stout's Diner is one of those great places.

The little stop along Highway 107 on the north side of Jacksonville is one of those great little unpresumptuous gems you find every once in a great while.  And six days a week, you can enjoy a great lunch there.

If you're a burger afficianado, you'll get a kick out of the hand-patted burgers made to order.  Even without the big hunk of 'mater, the purple onions, the crisp lettuce, the pickles or even the slice of cheese, the burger is worth it.  The big savory patty has that right kind of flavor -- not overspiced, not bland -- and all beef.  I coulda sworn there was a bit of cheese in the burger I ordered... which made it all the better.

Hamburgers are $5.15, cheeseburgers $5.65, bacon is a dollar extra and an extra patty is $2.  And that comes with a drink and your choice of fries, seasoned fries, or tator tots.  Not a bad deal for a big meal.  And I haven't even mentioned the pies.  Oh... the pies.  The handmade-when-you-order fried pies... well, I'll leave that to your imagination.

You'll find Stout's Diner at 26606 Highway 107 in Jacksonville.  It's open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.  They do take-out orders, too -- called in to (501) 983-0163.
