Downtown's Little Secret.

Lawmakers, take note.  Madea's Home Cooking is back in session.  The little house at 7th and Appianway (off the Woodrow Street exit) is once again rocking with the fragrance of good home cooking at reasonable prices, after a two week holiday break.

Every weekday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., those in the know can be found inside, perusing an ever-changing menu of lunch plates, burgers, and original items like the "Zack Attack."  This is where you'll find delicious edibles that will tickle the rural you out of hiding, like Smothered Rabbit (shown above) or today's special of Smothered Ox Tails.  Side items are what you'd expect to find on any South Arkansas plate -- white beans, greens, candied yams and the like.

Prices are decent, servings are large, and take-out boxes are offered with a smile.  And if you don't have room for dessert, just pick up a plate with a slice of your poison, like 7-Up Pound Cake or One Bowl Chocolate Cake for $2.  And if you like a twist to your day, order up some of that delicious Ginger Peach Tea.

Best of all, though the menu is ever changing, it can always be found at Madea's website.  The homecooking may be traditional, but the restaurant is up and together with the information age.  Call ahead to (501) 664-2230 or fax in your order at (501) 664-3232.
