If you've ever wondered...

...what Cormac McCarthy's scorched-earth epic, "Blood Meridian," would sound like as read by Ben Nichols, wonder no more. The live music site Daytrotter has a regular feature called Bookery, where musicians read from their favorite books. Nichols has a solo album out that's a tribute to "Blood Meridian," so, not surprisingly, he chooses a passage from it.

Here's a preview: Imagine someone who's spent the last decade turning his voice into gravel with the help of whiskey and cigarettes and hollering. Add spare prose about the travails of scalp hunters.
