Following up on a Tweet over the weekend: How 'bout this for the WTF? news item of the young year? Jeff Matika, longtime guitarist for the Magic Cropdusters and Ashtray Babyhead, is soon to spend 19 MONTHS on tour with GREEN DAY as the band's third guitarist.

Apparently, Vino's is the minor leagues for Berkley's finest. Little Rock native Jason White long ago became the became the band's de facto fourth member.

The addition seems geared to further pushing Green Day into U2 territory. Billie Joe's apparently going to do less guitar playing and more frontman-ing on this tour. White will play first guitar and Matika will play second and sing high harmonies.

Glenn Hooks at CheckOneTwo found Matika at Vino's and reports that he'll make his debut with the band on "Later with Jools Holland in London" followed by a few weeks of press touring surrounding the release of "21st Century Breakdown" and SNL in May.

Sweet.
