Just got back in from the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain, where hundreds showed up today to enjoy Bountiful Arkansas Day.  Lots of spectacular stuff to talk about (and yes, I definately will in my next entry) but I just had to share these photos from the tomato tasting today.  It was something else -- like grapes and cheese, different varieties of tomatoes have very different tastes -- from meaty and rich to pulpy and light to stringent and sweet.  Horticulture workshops abounded during the day at the Heritage Farmstead, and several vendors were selling plants and Arkansas-native fruits and vegetables.  I peeked in on one of the Second Saturday Chef Series workshops (which smelled wonderful!) and checked out the River Rock Grille.  Fascinating to see what's been done at the old Winthrop Rockefeller haunts on the hill.  When I left 740 people had already registered -- and more were expected for the afternoon lectures on eating within 100 mile radius and for the Runaway Planet concert (with free Diamond Bear beer!).  More to come.
