Smokin' for the Holidays.

Shopping, baking, visiting, wrapping, partying, making lists, preparing, decking -- there's a reason this is the busiest season of the year.  With a holiday party every weekend (or weekday, even) and relatives coming in from afar, trying to find time to get it all done is a hassle.

So, why not order in for the holidays?

There's no shame in ordering a ham or turkey and the fixings to go along with them.  After all, you've worked twice as hard to make sure everyone's stocking is filled and everyone has a package under the tree, right?

One local option -- order your bird or ham from a barbeque company.  After all, who's going to be able to smoke your meat any better?  No offense to the family meat-master...  who also deserves a day off and a chance to sit down to dinner without having spent hours in the cold over a smoker all morning or afternoon.

And a barbecue company that really puts on the dog when it comes to smoking -- Cross Eyed Pig.

You can usually find Cross Eyed Pig BBQ by following the scent of smoky pork and beef through the Rebsamen area. The little restaurant has a deck as large as its indoor space, and menu items range from pork shoulder, beef brisket and chicken to sandwiches and sidecars.

Around this time of year, it’s hams and turkeys for order to take home and put on the table. Turkeys run in the 12 pound range and are $49. Hams are around 10 pounds and will run you $44. Anthony and Ms. Mary can hot-cater a bird or pig out your way for a get-together or you can pick one up at the store. I’d suggest ordering well in advance, especially if you want a turkey right out of the smoker.

CROSS EYED PIG BBQ. Six hours of hot smoke plus great meat selection equals a really good ham or juicy turkey for your holiday dinner with no preparation necessary. Ask about sidecars, and put your order in early. RANGE: Turkeys ~12 pounds are $49, half spiral hams $44. ONLINE:
