Meet Me OnThe Other Side.

Posted By on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 3:15 PM

As I have lamented before, good breakfast spots in our town are hard to find. I was thrilled to find there was another entry onto the scene, B-Side, the new breakfast place that’s opened up in the Lilly’s DimSum Then Some.

I checked it out this morning. I was disappointed that the weekend brunch dishes weren’t being offered on a weekday, but I have to say that was my only disappointment.

My waiter talked me into the Frittata of the Day ($8), which today included caramelized onions, tomato and smoked gouda. The dish comes with a side of an English muffin. He brought me some housemade strawberry preserves, and proprietor Nancy Tesmer came by and offered some spicy aioli to go with my egg dish. You know, the sweet onions and smoky background were already starring in the frittata on its own; the addition of the aioli elevated the dish to a whole new level. I really liked the not-too-sweet preserves as well.

Nancy also let me try the Pommes Rösti, thin hash brown cakes with a different flavor. The difference, I know it will sound a little crazy, is parsnips; the root vegetables go well together and have a great earthy-sweet thing going.

Not many people know about B-Side yet, which is a shame. Inventive dishes such as French Toast Kebabs (French toast on a stick wrapped in bacon and doused in maple syrup) and Biscuit Mountain (buttermilk biscuits, sausage, Pommes Rösti, housemade sausage gravy and two eggs to order) deserve a chance to be sampled and enjoyed. I can’t wait for the chance to come for Saturday or Sunday brunch; I have a date with an order of Beignets with Lemon Curd and Whipped Cream.

Give it a try. You’ll find B-Side right beside (hehe, that’s kinda funny) Lilly’s DimSum Then Some at 11121 Rodney Parham (in the Market Street Shopping Center). It’s open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.  (501) 554-0914.
