Riverfest Recap: Steve Miller Band

Posted By on Tue, Jun 1, 2010 at 11:38 AM

I’m not what you would call a classic rock aficionado, but I have listened to it, whether on purpose or not, my whole life. Growing up, we would tune in to the classic rock radio station out of Shreveport and I didn’t realize until Sunday night just how much of that station’s programming was made up of Steve Miller tunes and just how many of them I knew almost word for word.

The Steve Miller Band closed down Riverfest on Sunday night with a great set of what you might call good ol’ booty-shaking rock music. A huge crowd, young and old, turned out to hear Miller belt out classics like “Jet Airliner,” “Rockin’ Me,” “Living in the U.S.A.,” and “Take the Money and Run.” Aside from the old stand-bys, Miller threw in a few rollicking covers from the likes of Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton.

One of the night’s highlights was a brief solo set carved out of the middle of the show. Miller stood behind an acoustic guitar and played some slower numbers for the lighter-waving crowd including “Seasons” and “The Joker.”
