DETERMINED: One of last years peach eating competitors
  • DETERMINED: One of last year's peach eating competitors
Greased pigs. Terrapin races. Egg tossing competitions and peach pit spitting rounds. They're all fun, but the best part of the Johnson County Peach Festival has to be watching the kids compete in the peach eating competition.

The festival is already underway, with the big contests taking place Friday and a whole lot of fun Saturday, too. How about the star attraction, the fruit of the day? You might recall from the Tie Dye Travels piece I did last year, that last year's late crop meant few peaches for the festival itself. Word from up that way is that many farms are seeing peaches already. For instance, Larry Holben's Triple D Farms is reportedly flush with good tasting peaches right now.

For more information about this year's festival, check out the Johnson County Peach Festival website.
