PURPLE THUMBS: The result of shelling PurpleHull peas
  • PURPLE THUMBS: The result of shelling PurpleHull peas
  • CORNBREAD, COBBLER AND PEAS: Cook-off staples
One of my favorite Arkansas festivals is coming up this weekend — Emerson's PurpleHull Pea Festival and the World Championship Rotary Tiller Races. It's one of those great community festivals that inflates a small town into a roaring capital of fun for a weekend. There are the tiller races, of course... and a carnival and all sorts of booths full of stuff. There's a PurpleHull Pea cook-off, cornbread cook-off and peach cobbler cook-off. And there's that great PurpleHull Pea dinner at lunchtime, served up while the greatest shellers in South Arkansas compete against each other. It's a fabulous little festival I can really sink my teeth into. Read more about it over at Tie Dye Travels.
