V.L. Cox's "Images of the South" series of multi-media paintings that place portraits behind screen doors opens tonight at the Thea Foundation. Cox's pieces are part nostalgia, part symbolism of segregation, part celebration of a time of banging screen doors and soda pop. You'll feel barefoot when you look at them.

In Cox's honor, Julia Norrell, the Arkansas native and resident of Washington, D.C., known for her celebrated collection of Southern paintings, photographs and sculpture, made a gift to Thea's Art Closet. Norrell donated her collection, which included Cox's first screen door painting, to the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Ga., after a tour that included the Arkansas Arts Center and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.

The reception is 6 to 9 p.m.; refreshments include Moon Pies and RC cola.
