  • "Shepherd and Flock," Henry Ossawa Tanner

Someone purchased this Henry Ossawa Tanner oil at Sotheby's "American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture" auction yesterday for $182,500.

I mention it because you don't have to go to Sotheby's in New York City to see what the City Review's Carter Horsley describes as a rare Tanner; you can go to Hearne Fine Art, 1001 Wright Ave., where work by Tanner and other African-American artists is on exhibit in a show called "Pioneers of the Paint: Masters of the 19th Century."
