Arkansas Arts Council giving away free money

Heads up, artists: the Arkansas Arts Council is still accepting applications for their Individual Artists Fellowships.

The Council will give away $4,000 fellowships to up to nine applicants who work in poetry, music composition (folk/jazz/pop) or sculpture and installation or music composition (folk/jazz/pop).

The deadline for applications is Friday, April 22.

Fellowships to Talented Arkansas Artists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Jan. 24, 2011

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Up to nine Individual Artist Fellowships will be awarded this year to artists in the following categories:

• Poetry
• Music composition: folk/jazz/pop
• Sculpture/installation

Applications are now being accepted and are available at www.arkansasarts.org or by contacting the Arts Council at (501) 324-9766. Deadline to apply for the $4,000 fellowships is Friday, April 22, 2011. The fellowships will be awarded in the fall.

“The Individual Artist Fellowships recognize individual artistic ability,” said Executive Director Joy Pennington. “Artists make up the core of the 34,000 Arkansans who work in creative enterprises, and it is important to recognize their economic and artistic contributions to Arkansas.”

To be eligible for fellowship awards, an artist must be at least 25 years old and must have been an Arkansas resident for at least one year at the time of application. Previous fellowship recipients are not eligible to apply.
