The Weekend Theater opens its production of "Gypsy," the Steven Sondheim musical based on the memoirs of famed striptease Gypsy Rose Lee, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday through July 10, $16-$20.

Egypt Central, Madam Adam, Abused Romance and Candlelight Red offer a night of dark modern alternative rock at Juanita's, 9 p.m., $8 adv., $10 d.o.s.

San Antonio's Pop Pistol and Fayetteville pop-punkers Dreamfast roll into Maxine's, 8 p.m., $5 adv., $7 d.o.s.

The Salty Dogs get down with their Bakersfield-style country at the White Water Tavern, 10 p.m., $5.
